5 Keys to Releasing The Sacramental Jesus in Others

If I spent a day with you, what would I discover? If I took a 3-day train ride with you, how would I describe you when we arrived at the station?

Sacramental identity is the unique presence of Christ in you, a God-combo of your Psalm 139 knitting together and your baptism-day-Holy-Spirit washing. It is the predestined, divinely patented you, ordained by your Creator Father for His purposes in the world. In sacramental terms, it is the sacramental Jesus in you, the real presence of Jesus wrapped in your bread and wine.

New Thinking. New Ideas.

New ideas require new thinking. Thinking that moves you from your office to the street. Thinking that gets your out of the boat to do the water-walking exercise with Jesus. Thinking that stays true to your values and mission but results in, well, new results.

Leading From Below

If you are a leader, you want to lead. You have ideas of how your ministry, your congregation, or your organization should be led and would love to see those things happen.

Even if you are not the guy in charge. That’s what makes you a leader.

You are passionate about the place you work, the calling you have, and you want to move the vision forward. But what do you do when you aren’t the lead guy? How do you influence your organization when you aren’t the person in charge?

Because we can’t all be on the top of the org chart.

A Focus on Baptism

Four years ago, as I was sitting at the O2 Conference (then called the wiki conference), I was struck as speaker and founder of FiveTwo, Bill Woolsey spoke about baptisms.  He stated that his church always had goals for baptisms, and prayed that God would use them to baptize 10% of their average weekend service attendance.

This launched a conversation around our Leadership Team about our baptismal prayer to the Lord each year. We too, boldly pray that we will be able to baptize at least 10% of our attendance at weekend services.  But, we also then began to pray as Lutheran’s that 10% of all our baptisms each year would be adults.

The Critical Step of Partnering with Your Community

When we teach the Business Model Canvas process in our incubator, we stress how the “Partners” box is one of the three most important boxes.  Why? Because we believe in the power of team, because we believe your cause ought to be bigger than just you, and because your Kingdom impact is multiplied when you partner with others outside of your organization.

Clarify Your Why

Clarify Your Why

A friend recently asked me, “Why did you launch the StartNew Fund?”

Whenever someone tells me about a startup they want to launch, I always ask “Why?”

“Why the new church in that section of downtown?” “Why the socially-conscious restaurant employing men released from prison?” “Why the city-wide effort to reach those far from God in the east valley?”  Tell me why.

I’m listening for passion and the story behind the passion.  I’m listening for history and mystery.  I want to hear about the grandmother or brother whose life so impacted yours that you are now compelled to reverberate into the community.

I need to hear about your past performance and success in ventures gone by – the larger the undertaking the more numerous and necessary the past experiences.

But at the heart of the effort I want to hear the why behind the heart.  Tell me why.
